Amtrak Train Instantly Kills Woman

Los Angeles - A woman was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train carrying 400 passengers and was bound for San Diego inside a railroad tunnel about west of the Chatsworth station last Sunday.
The accident was reported at around 4 p.m. in the 22300 block of West Devonshire Street when the train, Pacific Surfliner 784, which originated from San Francisco, was approaching Chatsworth station when a grab bar protruding from the side of a train car struck her while walking inside the tunnel.
According to Los Angeles Police Officer Karen Smith, the victim, who was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office as Myra Mina-Calove, 32, had been hiking and was walking inside the tunnel with her husband and two sisters, who have managed to squeeze against the wall of the tunnel and avoid being hit.
Amtrak spokesman Clifford Cole said that no passengers of the train sustained injuries, but were held on board for two hours and 40 minutes until an investigation was completed.
The victim was instantly killed in the accident.
