ANIMAL ATTACK: Aggressive Rooster Causes Injuries, Victim Wants $50,000 Worth of Damages

March 26, 2011

Chicago, Illinois – A man is seeking $50,000 worth of damages for his injuries after he was allegedly attacked by a rooster while working at a southwest suburban animal center.

The plaintiff Mark Lovett claimed that two years ago, while putting up a fence at Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport, a territorial chicken struck him and repeatedly pecked his right leg.

According to the lawsuit he filed in Will County Circuit last week, the accident caused him “great pain and anguish, both in mind and body,” though the kind and extent of his injuries were not detailed.

Lovett also claimed that he did not provoke the chicken into attacking him. Both Lovett and his attorney did not want to give any comment about the lawsuit.

Injury involving birds are unusual, but are actually quite common. In 2007, a woman filed a similar lawsuit in Massachusetts after alleging that a rooster attacked her while she was buying eggs from a roadside stand. Recently, last January, a man was killed after he was cut by a fighting rooster’s metal spur in California.
