August 5, 2010
Sacramento – Authorities are currently investigating the cause of a plane accident that injured 82-year-old pilot John A. Sanders of Placerville near the Lincoln Airport yesterday afternoon.
According to Lincoln Fire Department, Sanders was flying a one seat, single-engine experimental aircraft for about two minutes after taking off from Lincoln Airport when he experienced difficulty controlling the plane.
Sanders made a hard landing as he was not able to keep the plane up the air. The crash bent the nose of the plane but the body was still intact.
The Fire Department was alerted of the crash by a sky-diving company, which received a report from a sky diver who witnessed the incident.
Rescue personnel arrived at about 1:50 pm and were able to transport Sanders to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by air ambulance.
Sanders sustained leg injuries and a bump to the head, but was otherwise in very good spirits and lighthearted about the whole thing.
