2 Killed, 5 Others Hurt in California Road Accident

March 27, 2009

Irwindale, California – Two people were dead while five others were seriously injured after a road accident involving eight cars happened in Irwindale Avenue on early Friday morning.

Local authorities said the incident started when two cars collided. With no sustained injuries, the drivers pulled to the side of the highway after hearing there was a screeching sound on rear.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer Edmund Zorilla said the two drivers saw a truck carrying fences suddenly skidded and lost control, sending the driver out of the vehicle and into the concrete which resulted to his instantaneous death.

Zorilla said that a 70-year-old woman also died after the skidding truck crushed her car.

On the east side of the road, another accident occurred when a bus hit a pickup truck. Only the driver of the truck sustained injuries and was immediately airlifted to hospital.

Authorities have not yet found the cause of this multi-vehicle crash but said investigation is under way to determine if anyone has failed to obey traffic rules or if the road is unsafe for vehicles.

“We are investigating if something has obstructed the drivers’ view. And right now, we are gathering evidences and asking witnesses to find out what really happened”, Zorilla added.

The wreckage had caused heavy traffic for few hours.

Meanwhile, CHP officials said all the lanes from the 210 Freeway are now open for motorists.
